Tower Ave reconstruction project moves forward

Plans are moving forward in Superior, Wisconsin to redevelop Tower Avenue.

On Sept. 3, Superior Mayor Jim Paine announced on Facebook that he hoped to soon begin a $1 million repair project to help stabilize the road.

“We did the same patching we would always do, but it was in particularly rough conditions this spring,” the mayor said in an interview with WDIO, “so right now it’s almost more patching than concrete.”

The multi-phase project will begin with the removal and replacement of concrete south of 28th Street. He Street in Superior. Next year, the city plans to reconstruct the nearly mile-long stretch of road from 28th Street to 28th Street. He From the street to Belknap Street. Mayor Paine says this is one of the most significant road construction projects the city has undertaken in decades.

“We’re not just replacing streets as they are, we’re making an effort every time we do a street project to build it better so it lasts longer, to make it more beautiful so the neighborhoods are better, and to make it safer so people can move safely in their neighborhoods.”

While the city is still planning and taking bids, the mayor told WDIO the project could cost around $2 million to $4 million, and construction, which begins in the fall of next year, could stretch into 2026.
