Amazon gives the green light to ‘Neagley’, spin-off of ‘Reacher’ starring Maria Sten

EXCLUSIVE:Prime Video is looking to turn another iconic drama series into a franchise. A spin-off of Reacher is in fast-track development at the streamer and ready to be greenlit, sources told Deadline.

Noble NeagleyI heard the offshoot would focus on Maria Sten’s fan-favorite character Frances Neagley, a corporate security professional and former military colleague of Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit.

Reacher Executive producer and showrunner Nick Santora, who developed the mothership series based on Lee Child’s books, has teamed up with Nicholas Wootton, with whom he previously worked on Prison break and its sequel, to develop, executive produce and co-showrunner. Like the original series, the spin-off is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television, along with CBS Studios, which recently absorbed original co-producer Paramount TV Studios.

In addition to Santora and Wootton, Neagley The project is executive produced by Lee Child, Don Granger and Lisa Kussner along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid and Niko Fernandez will oversee the project for Skydance. Representatives for Prime Video and the studios declined to comment.

Frances Neagley was introduced in season 1 of Reacherbased on the child The killing floor novel, in which the character does not appear. She played a pivotal role in the second season based on a book in which Neagley is a main character. Bad luck and problemsemerging as Reacher’s sidekick with whom he can exchange ideas.

Reacher and Neagley have become such a popular on-screen duo that when Prime Video revealed that season 3 would be based on Child’s Persuader, Another book in which Neagley does not appear, the streamer made a point of announcing that Sten would be returning to reprise his role alongside Ritchson.

In Season 3, which was greenlit last December ahead of the series’ Season 2 premiere, veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher (Ritchson) must go undercover to rescue an informant being held by a disturbing enemy from his past.

Reacher Season 2 was the #1 title on Prime Video worldwide across both series and movies during its opening weekend (based on viewership).

With its expansion of the universe pending, Reacher is about to join Prime Video’s star drama, The boyswhich has spawned four other series to date. The streaming service also ordered a prequel to List of terminals alongside popular series mothership Chris Pratt, and has also explored a Jack Ryan split.

In addition to Reacher and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Skydance Television has produced several other series with Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video, including the upcoming Cross and the recently announced The Runaroundsstarring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, and a documentary series about the Idaho murders.
