There have been many rumors and speculation surrounding Brandon Ingram’s future in the NBA, whether it be with the New Orleans Pelicans or another team. This has been especially questioned recently, as Ingram is set to become a free agent in 2025.

One place that doesn’t seem like a likely destination is Golden State, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole, who said “any chance of him coming to Golden State is minuscule.”

Poole made those remarks in the context of a discussion about the November 2020 trade the Warriors made for then-Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kelly Oubre.

In the eight years since Kevin Durant left, the Oubre deal is the only individual move that has been made under the theory that it alone would be enough to keep the Warriors in contention. Every move since, including the addition of Chris Paul last summer, has been made to supplement the roster rather than expand its core.

Much of that focus is tied to Oubre’s experience. The Warriors are no longer willing to jeopardize their results, sacrifice a bunch of draft picks or alter their roster for someone who isn’t a consensus choice.

Brandon Ingram, for example, is among those who sources say don’t quite reach that level. There are enough pros and cons that any chance of him making it to Golden State is slim.

Ingram, who is entering his ninth NBA season, should have no shortage of suitors, though. In 2023-24, the former Duke star averaged 20.8 points on 49.2 percent shooting, 5.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported in July that Ingram is seeking a four-year deal worth $208 million.

That deal has not been finalized, but Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin said in July that the team wants him back.

“We’ve been very clear, we prefer Brandon to stay with us,” Griffin said on Sirius XM (h/t Jim Eichenhofer for the Pels website). “And Brandon’s been very clear, he prefers to stay with us.”

However, Griffin also said the team is “going to move forward.”

“There’s a financial reality behind this. And I think we can go as far as this group stays together, but it might not be as far as he and his agency would like us to go. So for now, we’re just going to move forward. I think we’re committed to each other and committed to seeing if this team can work together in a way that makes sense.”

But a few days ago, Ingram posted a video of a motivational speaker imploring people to leave environments where others don’t recognize their true worth.

Ah… the NBA is very calm, literally nothing happens… All the changes seem to have been made…

So for now, there’s at least a little bit of drama. However, it looks like Ingram isn’t going anywhere… yet.

Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic had this to say on the matter: The Pat McAfee Show in August.

Ultimately, all signs point to Ingram staying in town when the Pels’ season begins, which will occur on October 23 at home against the Chicago Bulls.
