These 10 Michigan universities are the best in the US, according to Princeton Review rankings

Ten Michigan colleges and universities appear on this year’s “Top 390 Colleges” ranking for 2025, from smaller private schools to large public institutions.

The publication’s rankings are based on surveys of students on a variety of topics, including academic aspects such as classroom experience, quality of life, diversity, campus life, extracurricular activities and social environments. The methodology can be found here.

This ranking is different from the Princeton Review rating system, which rates schools between 60 and 99 on a variety of metrics.

The “Top 390 Colleges” ranking lists schools in alphabetical order. The ranking includes:

  • Albion College
  • Calvin University in Grand Rapids
  • Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti
  • Hillsdale College
  • Kalamazoo College
  • Kettering University in Flint
  • Lawrence Technological University at Southfield
  • Michigan State University
  • Michigan Technological University
  • University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Each school has a summary of what students said in the surveys. For example, Albion College was described as providing “undergraduates with a ‘rigorous yet rewarding’ academic experience filled with ‘tremendous opportunities.’”

In an article about Eastern Michigan University’s rankings, officials noted that students found professors to be approachable, students to be active on campus with diverse interests, and new housing available through the $200 million “Welcome Home 2025” project.

The full ranking can be found here.

In addition to student surveys, Princeton Review also listed Michigan universities that offer the best return on investment. The University of Michigan ranked No. 7 among public universities, while Michigan Technological University ranked No. 33.
