Lady Gaga scores her first number 1 on a chart after more than a decade of career

Lady Gaga burst onto the mainstream scene nearly two decades ago with her signature blend of electronic dance and pop. Since then, she has continued to churn out massive hits that everyone listens to when they come on. Her latest release is another smash hit, and now she’s reached a new level, helping the woman behind the track do the same.

“Die with a Smile” climbs to the top step in both Billboard advertising The song climbs from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US this week.

Gaga’s new collaboration with Bruno Mars marks her first-ever spot on both charts worldwide. “Die with a Smile” takes both superstars to the top for the first time in their careers.

“Die with a Smile” opened at No. 2 on both charts. Billboard advertising The song was a huge hit upon release, but failed to overtake Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” which held firm at the top spot, despite facing stiff competition from two of the most famous musicians in the world.

Billboard Billboard only released the two charts of the most-streamed songs in the world in 2020, so there are still plenty of well-known names that haven’t yet cracked the top 10 or No. 1, or even made it onto the chart. The Billboard Global 200 uses a methodology that combines streams and sales to show what the world’s population is listening to. The Billboard Global Excl. US, meanwhile, works in a very similar way, except all U.S. data has been removed.

“Die with a Smile” is Gaga’s first top 10 hit on the global charts. It had previously peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 21 on the Billboard Global Excl. US. In both cases, her biggest hit (prior to this new hit) had been “Rain on Me” featuring Ariana Grande.

Meanwhile, Mars had already entered the upper echelons at least once on both charts. On the Billboard Global 200, he earned two more top 10s, both of which came as one half of Silk Sonic alongside Anderson .Paak. “Leave the Door Open” fell one spot short of the top spot, while “Smokin Out the Window” peaked at No. 8. On the Billboard Global Excl. US, only the former made the top 10, where it stalled at No. 4.
