Syracuse University won’t demolish former fraternity house; scales back plans to build massive dorms: Syracuse University has scaled back plans to build a new student dormitory after encountering resistance from city officials, neighbors and historic preservationists. Just before the Syracuse City Council was set to vote this week on whether to protect a vacant mansion Syracuse University owns on Comstock Avenue, the university withdrew a demolition application filed in the spring as part of the dormitory project. Syracuse University has also filed revised plans with the Syracuse City Planning Commission for the dormitory project.
